Why such a theme?

The short story where we went from a constellation-themed wedding to the quirkiest #harrypotterwedding

My husband and I initially agreed on navy blue and matte gold for the wedding motif. I was able to connect it to the constellations since we used to stargaze when he was still courting me in university. The first year of our wedding planning rarely dealt with aesthetics, as we were all about budgeting. Who cares about styling when we haven't even finished saving up to feed over a hundred people?

Boredom sets in

“This is a once-in-a-lifetime party. Might as well be as true as we can be. The heck with a formal party. Let's go wizardly!”

I had to eventually admit to myself that there are not much unique ideas with blue and gold, more so with star-themed weddings. It's the usual: constellation names instead of table numbers, cheesy calligraphy quotes on sun and moon here and there, sparkly table runners, white and blue flowers, 'Christmas-lighty' backdrops. Not that they were ugly. Absolutely not. I think they are classy, if I'm honest. They were just too formal for the type of weirdos we both are.

Going rogue

Many thanks to social media, I learned that Harry Potter parties are also applicable to adult events like well, w-e-d-d-i-n-g-s. Though my heart was jumping with joy the moment my husband gave his blessing (he went nuts about this too, more on that later), I was a tiny bit scared that it might look like a children's party and tactless. I was also not sure if our priest would be happy about it. You know, witchcraft. LOL. But of course you know the happy ending to this story. We thought to ourselves: "This is a once-in-a-lifetime party. Might as well be as true as we can be. The heck with a formal party. Let's go wizardly!"

Styling & all that jazz

“So much support and love were poured onto us, I could not even.”

As I've said, husband went nuts. He was the bride, if I'm honest. He crafted majority of the personalized Harry Potter wands for souvenirs, invented his own reception program game where the wands were used, conceptualized the stage backdrop, and even sketched the Gryffindor-marries-Ravenclaw wedding cake!

Surprise, surprise

Just when I thought I would be dealing with irritating side comments from family and friends who would question the oddity of the wedding theme, I was surprised that even our most conventional family members got excited about it. So much support and love were poured onto us, I could not even.
